Good bye, Davao.

I’m finally leaving Davao City for good, but I’m not happy. I have come to love this beautiful city.

This post is queued, so I’m probably boarding a bus right now as you’re reading this text post.

I have been living here for almost 5 years, primarily due to college. Actually, I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t fail my interview for a certain nursing school in Cebu, that is, Cebu Normal University or CNU. They say that that school is one of the best in the country in producing nurses. I was devastated when I knew that. And depressed too. Then my mom told me to enroll at Ateneo de Davao University. I said no. I wanted to be in Cebu, because of a hidden agenda: I wanted to be with my boyfriend. He was my high school batch mate, and he will be enrolling at University of San Carlos, with the course of Electrical and Communications Engineering. Now that I think about it, that was really cheesy of me. :))

In the end, my mom prevailed. So hello Davao.

Before, I never liked Davao. For me, it was some cheap city and that Cebu was way cooler. HAHA! Sorry for the term used and for the comparison. :)) But later on, I learned to love it. :) And my perception of Davao as a cheap city was changed, because I was definitely wrong with that prejudgment.

As time went by, I saw how magnificent Davao is: its safety, the 911, the 24-hour roaming police patrol, the approachable TMC (Traffic Management Control), the cleanliness and orderliness, its well-respected Mayor (I salute you ma’am and sir!), the beautiful people, the quirky and unique language of Davao (Ano ka man uy. Ka-weird lagi ng ginasabi mo. Magpunta ka na kasi dito. Haha! It’s actually kind of infectious and cute…a bit), the deadly DDS (Davao Death Squad), the 10-second traffic light (yes, I counted it and it’s very consistent), the drivers who allow you to pass even if it’s a green light as long as you give the stop hand signal, and especially, the people whom I have met who are now my friends. Well, actually, there are way too many things that make Davao City beautiful. What I have enumerated here is not enough.

As I leave this city, I will be bringing with me all the memories I had. I have learned to become independent, self-reliant and responsible for my every action. It’s sad to be parting from something that you have come to love, but it’s all part of growing up. Davao City has incurred to me things that are worth remembering.

To Tumblr DavaoKada: It was nice seeing you guys last Feb. 16, on that meet-up. Even though I was very late, you warmly welcomed me with your smiles and hellos. I’m sorry I couldn’t go to the White Day this May 12. It would have been fun to finally get to know each one of you, because I wasn’t able to do so last Feb. 16. Have fun and keep the fire burning! :D

To my girlfriends: Who would have thought that we would endure and pass the board exam together? I always thought that we are blessed. We are just too damn lucky. :)) Keep in touch, okay? :) Love you girls! :*

To Kat and JustinThank you for allowing me to be with you guys, even if I’m not one of the BiBis. :)) Don’t worry, I’ll always be your trusty liker and avid supporter, may it be on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube or even here in Tumblr. You know that I’m just one text or tweet away. :)

To AVG wave 9: Sorry guys for leaving Sutherland earlier than expected. I just had to. I know that the nursing career here in the Philippines is not that good, but my heart is always for serving and for caring. I know it’s too corny, but I realized I am not trained to interact with people through the phone. I am just happy that I got to know you guys. :)

I guess this is it. Good bye, Davao. You will always have a special place in my heart. :) See you when I see you. I hope I’ll be coming back, because if given the chance, I will.

P.S. I will not be leaving Tumblr. I hope. :))

I choose to write because it’s perfect for me. It’s an escape, a place I can go to hide. It’s a friend, when I feel out casted from everyone else. It’s a journal, when the only story I can tell is my own. It’s a book, when I need to be somewhere else. It’s control, when I feel so out of control. It’s healing, when everything seems pretty messed up.
And it’s fun, when life is just flat-out boring.

New Words

Because I’ve been reading Angels and Demons, I think I’ll post here some words which are new to me. I’ve always been fascinated by words. :)

prequel - a work (as a novel or play) whose story precedes that of an earlier work.

plethora - excess, superfluity

arcane - known or knowable only to the initiate : secret

cliff-hanger - an adventure serial or melodrama; especially : one presented in installments each in suspense

cruciform - forming or arranged in a cross

emblaze - to illuminate especially by a blaze

erudite - having or showing knowledge that is gained by studying

enigma - something hard to understand or explain

epigraph - a quotation set at the beginning of a literary work or one of its divisions to suggest its theme

colossal - of a bulk, extent, power, or effect approaching or suggesting the stupendous or incredible

fuselage - the central body portion of an aircraft designed to accommodate the crew and the passengers or cargo

vestige - a trace, mark, or visible sign left by something (as an ancient city or a condition or practice) vanished or lost

I hope you don’t mind this list of new words. :)) I love them. I think I’m becoming a logophile. Ooh.

Note: My reference is the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

medicalschool:

Floaters are deposits of various size, shape, consistency, refractive index, and motility within the eye’s vitreous humour, which is normally transparent. At a young age the vitreous is perfectly transparent but, during life, imperfections gradually develop. The common type of floater, which is present in most people’s eyes, is due to degenerative changes of the vitreous humour. The perception of floaters is known as myodesopsia. Floaters are visible because of the shadows they cast on the retina or their refraction of the light that passes through them, and can appear alone or together with several others in one’s field of vision. They may appear as spots, threads, or fragments of cobwebs, which float slowly before the observer’s eyes. Since these objects exist within the eye itself, they are not optical illusions but are entoptic phenomena.

I’ve always had these before when I was young. I thought it was something related to magic and had fun playing with it. :)) Oh well. Those were the days. :)
